Fun addendum to this! I just got into a conversation with a random dude at church today who's been working on a roleplaying world he's been building since the 1970s. Go check it out, it's pretty cool: asterland.com

That's good stuff, and I'm all for it. Though i have to ask. What do you think i should do if I've already "hit my peak" a long time ago and i haven't been able to ever replicate that again or go back to some level of success similar to that as a content creator?

The thing is, i used to get frontpaged all the time, got an award or two and thousands of views, but now i can barely finish a project because I feel it's just going to flunk and my artistic journey so to speak, has been declining slowly.

At this point, I'm considering starting over because i don't really like what I'm doing or have done.

To that I say, same here! 10 years ago, some of my animations got featured and got 10's of thousands of views. But that was years ago, and I haven't done much since! Coming back, now most of my followers are dead accounts, and I have to start over myself, at least in a way.

Right now NG is a smaller site than it used to be, and even with a front page, it's unlikely anything you or I post will be seen by the same number of people as it did back then. But that's okay. Like I said, if you keep going, keep pushing yourself, then you'll find success again. Choose to believe in yourself even and perhaps especially if you don't feel like you deserve it.

Dig deep, and make whatever choices you feel you need to in order to find your confidence.

I look forward to seeing what you make. :)

yo dude, nice post, but honestly reading that the dude only released his stuff when he was 62 it reduces a little my hopes, i started my stuff when i was 15 now with 23 it had some changes indeed but nothing "wow success"

That just means your "wow success" is still out there in your future!

With the 62 years thing, I think what I really meant by that is that you have time in your life, and there's nothing that says you can't find success in your endeavors in the future (near or far) just because others found theirs earlier.

Also, hello from the US, lol. Brazil is cool. I hope to visit some day!

also you're an engineer that's cool, hails from brazil

Tolkien is definitely one of my idols, but I know what I plan on making is a far cry from his masterpieces.
Honestly, in some ways, it's better to have your passion projects finished later in life. I started working on mine when I was 18-- that was 11 years ago-- I've learned so much from life and from running into countless creative roadblocks/writer's blocks that the layout I've got now is so much more coherent than what I used to have.

Another idol of mine, Makoto Shinkai, didn't start directing movies until he was in his 30's.
I'll be 30 beginning of next year, but I don't regret the years I've spent learning my craft (tho I'm no master at it).

I second that. There's so much more that I'm capable of now that college is behind me and I've got a collection of skills built up.

I freaking love Shinkai, by the way! Suzume was fantastic.

Thanks for sharing this bro. I'm kind of a chronic worrier when it comes to art and such, always thinking about how much better everyone is compared to me. This helps a good deal man!
